Skillway News 2010
Summer Holidays
The Skillway Office is closed during the school summer holidays and will re-open on Monday 6th September. Should you need to contact somebody urgently you can phone Humphrey Davis on his landline: 01428 654602 or Vivien Gillman: 01428 608261. Term begins at the Workshops on Monday 6th September.Weald and Downland Museum - July
Three students accompanied by members of staff visited The Weald and Downland Museum on Thursday 1 July at the kind invitation of John Walsh. A 'hands on' session began the tour with constructing a model timber-framed house, trying some tiling, discussing 'pulley systems' and studying various timber joints used in construction of old houses before another session, elsewhere on the site, looking at a huge range of bygone 'tools of the trades' and learning about their usage - a far cry from 'Black and Decker'! A final session before picnic lunch was spent learning and perhaps trying to come-to-terms with the incredible, award- winning, construction of the Downland Gridshell building completed in 2002 - an extraordinary building which must be seen again.
Our enormous thanks to John Walsh for organising the trip and for being such a helpful and informative guide.

Young Supporters of Skillway - June
We are quite overwhelmed by the incredible generosity of two twelve year old boys from Aldro School. Harry Gault and Freddie Wooding shared their twelfth birthday party and asked their friends to donate money to Skillway instead of giving them birthday presents. In the event they managed to raise just over £535.00! This selfless act has earnt them much admiration and praise from not only those who support Skillway but also from many others who have come to hear of their story. The two boys made their presentation at the workshops accompanied by Headmaster, David Aston, on Wednesday 30 June. We hope very much that a photograph will duly appear in the Surrey Advertiser. Skillway are extremely grateful to Harry and Freddie; we are proud to count them as some of our youngest supporters.Open Day

Surrey Advertiser - June
Three lucky Skillway students found themsleves on the front page of the Godalming edition Surrey Advertiser (18 June). A photograph of the students taken by a Surrey Ad photographer showed them at work refurbishing our canoes for the annual Wey River paddle; a report for which can be found below. Attached to the photograph was an article about the work of Skillway.
